Angie- I love all of your pics! The twins are looking so great; I'm glad all is going well. The VSD is similar to the PDA as far as some of the symptoms. The difference physically is that the PDA is a flap that has to be closed and the VSD is a hold in the middle wall of her heart. Both have non-oxygenated blood mixing with oxygenated blood though I think. Did he have to have open-heart surgery?
Isn't it funny after all of this that you learn so much and really believe you could be a doc or nurse. At least I did. Taylor had to have heart surgery to close the flap. He has a pretty big scar from his shoulder blade to his rib cage. He also ended up with staph after the surgery, so I can understand your concern regarding infection. The surgery went really quick about 45 mins (felt like hours though). The doc that did it was from Emanual and he had just finished the same surgery an hour before Taylor's on a 1 lb baby. Taylor was about 3 at the time of his surgery. That put us at ease. These docs do this every day and truly perform miracle work. I remember looking at how big the doc was, very tall and huge hands. I thought how the heck is he going to do this on our small baby. He was amazing! We are praying for you guys! Take care!!
